Rain Water Harvesting (RWH)
Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is the method of collecting rainfall and preventing rain water from flowing as waste. The collected rainwater is either stored for use or it is diverted towards the existing borewell to increase the ground water level. this is called borewell recharging.
Capturing the rainwater and recharging it back to natural undergruond aquifers can ensure water availability in water-scarce zones. Though it seems important today the concept was a traditional practice followed in rural India. Some ancient rainwater harvesting methods followed in India include madakas, ahar pynes, surangas, taankas and many more.
RWH seems a important concept as now ground water levels are depleting and climate conditions are fluctuating. RWH can prove to be helpful in mitigating the severe conditions.
This system can be easily developed in individual houses, apartments, parks, offices across the world. Infact any area or bulding structure having considerable roof top area can be used for RWH. Many farmers apply this concept for recharging heir dry borewells. They created water banks, wetlands in thier farms to hold water, wich can be rither used or it percolates in the ground well. Technical know how for the rooftop RWH with direct storage or recharging can be availed for better implementation. RWH is an effective method in water scarce times, it is also an easily doable practice.
